Sunday 16th November 2008

Another short entry to end the weekend. It's Sunday evening, and just before I sat down to commence with this text update I realised that I hadn't taken any pictures of Luca today. Consequently you are having to do with the two offending images above, taken merely minutes ago as he slept in his cot. And no, he didn't wake!
My neglecting to take pictures earlier in the day (like duurghh) relays my general mental incompetence today. I'm still down with this bug, though thankfully I haven't deteriorated further. And more importantly neither has Luca. As a safeguard, however, we've stayed in all day today to ensure we're fighting fit for the upcoming week - which promises to be a busy time. Obviously though, as a consequence, it's been deadly dull too!
Carole and I were due to do the salsa class for the first time tonight, so I write this with a pang of guilt. Next week Carole, hell or high water! I do think it was the right thing to do though, due to what's coming up....
On another note, Carole seems to have recovered quite well today to her "exertions" of yesterday. It was her lunch date with the gym girls yesterday and she had a glass of wine too many. Luca and I were preparing his dinner around 5pm-ish yesterday when the doorbell went. We opened the door to be caught off guard by the site of Carole - literally - falling through it. She'd got a lift home, and they must have had to shovel her into the car. The drunkest I've ever seen her? Very possibly. Luca didn't seem to notice as she crashed out within a short period of arriving in the house!
Typing that reminded me of Luca's reaction to the doorbell ringing. It's not a noise he's used too (we see most people coming into the street so are normally able to greet them in the driveway) and he panicked. He screamed in fright and wrapped himself round my leg. Even after I untangled him from my knee and put him in my arms he still shook like Elvis Presley itching like a man on a fuzzy tree. Poor mite, he was a little mixed up but was feelin' fine.
I was supposed to be off work this week, but due to a number of things (mainly one colleague off long term sick and another having quit) I've agreed to come in 2 or 3 days this week. I'm not 100% decided on when yet, but most likely it'll be for periods of Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Don't be cruel, Carole may tell me for letting work affect our lives, but she'd also have to acknowledge that I'm not the devil in disguise and that I won't surrender to working any unexpected hours after this. And I won't let work effect the important ones, and if I do I'll sleep in our pound with Isis like a mangy hound dog.
My plan for after I turn the PC off? Have a coffee with Carole and retire to bed early to watch a little of a movie I downloaded - "The Love Guru", starring Mike Myers. I loved the "Austin Powers" films, but I also know this flick got rotten reviews so I'm really not sure where my expectations lie! Tomorrow I'll be up early with Carole and Chubby McChubs and will likely roll into work afterwards - I'll see. Strewth, I sound like dad (with his long lunches and early finishes)! I can only do these "casual" hours because I'm doing my company a favour, dad can do this when he likes! See, there are advantages to getting older! Speaking of whom, apologies for being so brief on the phone earlier, the old head was a little "wooly"! Time permitting I may pop through for the radio at tea time tomorrow - with the little 'un in tow obviously!
**Useless fact of the day - The recent film "How To Lose Friends And Alienate People" was originally a (mainly) autobiographical novel written by Toby Young. Having yesterday read an interview with him the reverse is surely true - due to him having (many times) adversely affected the literary career of Julie Burchill (spit, boo, hiss, appalling egotistical "writer", a woman who in my younger years almost put me off reading broadsheets entirely due to her indistinguishable "ability") he must surely be regarded as a hero**
